"Jerzi Skolimowski has been painting all his life, but as the majority of painters of the 20th century, he has turned to film as a form of expression. I saw his paintings for the first time a couple of years ago and I thought they were merely non-figural works. However, by observing more carefully, I have seen that his paintings were never completely abstract, that they always remain connected to the figure and the landscape. His plays always refer to man. Skolimowski is first of all a painter; painting is his solace in between two films, a solace with which he transcents filmmaking.
