MLADEN DJORDJEVIC, DIRECTOR OF „LIFE AND DEATH OF THE PORN GANG“

Mladen Djordjevic has graduated film direction on the Faculty of Drama Arts with a feature documentary MADE IN SERBIA, who brought him fame, on can say. Owing to the success of that film, he managed to raise the funds for “Life and Death of the Porn Gang”, the only domestic film in the program “Europe out of Europe”. The film was created wanting to take people from the documentary, namely the people from the margins of society, on a trip on Serbian roads (it’s a road movie) and to combine them with elements from genres not close to East European film, says Mladen Djordjevic.

„I think that in the ’Porn Gang’, what is interesting is the combination of the black wave aesthetics (Pavlovic, Zilnik) with elements from modern Japanese film, American horror films, John Water’s and Paul Morrissey’s films… I wanted to see how Kemp in the mud works. I think it is a very interesting combination. I am very interested in this metafilm approach, the combination of various, seemingly incoherent styles. It’s more interesting than social and political engagement, although the Porn Gang has that layer also. This film is actually a story about the conflict between rural and urban Serbia, Eros and Tanatos, a film on the Balkans in which death wins over Eros“, said director Mladen Djordjevic in an interview for the Croatian magazine Klik.
