Laurent Tissier is a French director, producer and screenwriter. He studied film at Monpellier and Montreal in Canada. His work bears a characteristic southern atmosphere and warm southern lighting, his personal signature, a mark from the childhood he spent at the South of France, in the region of Avignon. He has made short films and documentaries in the previous years, and Toril is his feature length debut.
Featuring Dheepan co-star Vincent Rottiers in an intense and often understated lead performance, this debut effort from director Laurent Teyssier and screenwriter Guillaume Grosse can feel a bit systematically heavy-handed in the plot department, but still offers enough to chew on for arthouse genre aficionados.
