JAO VANG / WANG YAO

FILMOLOGIST, CHINA, JURY PRESIDENT

WANG Yao, Ph.D is an assistant researcher of the Beijing Film Academy. He is also a film critic, member of NETPAC (Regional Adviser of East Asia), member of FIPRESCI and festival curator for Beijing International Film Festival and Shanghai International Film Festival. His main research interests include film history, Eastern European cinemas studies, and film festival studies. He publishes articles in Contemporary Cinema editions, in Journal of Beijing Film Academy, Close UP (UNATC) and other academic journals, and he writes film reviews for websites and other media. His book Romanian New Wave is forthcoming in publication.

 

LAZAR BODROŽA

DIRECTOR, SERBIA

Lazar Bodroža is a director, visual artist, founder and creative director of the independent design studio Metaklinika.

He was born in 1983. in Belgrade, Serbia. He graduated from the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade.

In 2011 Lazar Bodroža won the award TOP 20 under 30 given by Print Magazine. He was selected as one of the world’s top 20 visual artists under the age of 30.

He is the author of the interactive film Über Life (2010) and the short film The Mountain Wreath (2006).

His feature debut A.I. Rising (2018) was the absolute winner in the Serbian Film Competition Program of the 46th FEST (Belgrade Victor - Best Film; Jury Prize - Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress; FEDEORA Jury Award) and it was subsequently screened at important European film festivals. The film will have world wide distribution by Lionsgate in March 2019.

 

MILAN MARIĆ

ACTOR, SERBIA

Milan Marić (b. 1990 in Belgrade) is a Serbian theatre, TV and film actor. He is ranked among the foremost Serbian actors of younger generation.

He graduated from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade where he studied with Biljana Mašić. He created a number of well-received roles at the Yugoslav Drama Theatre, Atelje 2012, Bitef Theatre, Kruševac Theatre, and Belgrade Cultural Center. He had his big screen debut in The Man Who Defended Gavrilo Princip (2014), followed by the films roles in Humidity and Santa Maria della Salute (both 2016). He is also in demand on television, with roles in TV series Nemanjić Dynasty - Birth of a Kingdom, Morning Changes Everything, The Military Academy and Besa.

Internationally Milan Marić achieved immense success with his lead role in Alexei German Jr.’s Dovlatov, which was premiered at Berlinale 2018 in Competition and received Silver Bear for Outstanding Artistic Contribution. The film had its Serbian premiere in the program of the 46th FEST where it received FIPRESCI Serbia Award “Dinko Tucaković.”

 

DANIEL RAFAELIĆ

FILMOLOGIST, CROATIA

Daniel Rafaelić is a film historian, essayist, director and screenwriter. He graduated History from the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb. He worked as a filmologist-archivist at the Croatian Film Archive (part of the Croatian State Archives), where from 2007 till 2009 he was the Head of the Department for protection and restoration of film material. He studies Croatian and world cinematography and he researched the film archives in Vienna and Berlin.

In 2017 he was appointed Director of Croatian Audiovisual Centre. He is the collaborator of the Academy of Dramatic Art and Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb.

In 2016 Daniel Rafaelić received the Plaque of the Yugoslav Film Archive for long-standing collaboration and contribution to film art.

 

ALBERT VIDERŠPIL / ALBERT WIEDERSPIEL

FESTIVAL DIRECTOR, GERMANY

Albert Wiederspiel has been the Director of Filmfest Hamburg since 2003.

Born in 1960 in Warsaw, his family had to leave Poland after the anti-semitic events of 1968.

He grew up in Copenhagen, Denmark and left for Paris in order to study film at the Sorbonne University.

After finishing his studies he started as a trainee with Twentieth Century Fox International in 1985 before he switched to Twentieth Century Fox of Germany in Frankfurt/Main where he eventually became head of Marketing. 

He left in 1995 and took up the position as Head of Marketing and later as General Manager at PolyGram Film Entertainment in Hamburg. 2000-2001 he was General Manager (Theatrical) at Tobis StudioCanal, Berlin.

Albert Wiederspiel is member of the European Film Academy and was named Chevalier de l‘ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2013.
