When he arrives at a Catholic boarding school, Goran feels stifled by instant religion that is being rammed down his throat. He rejects it all, convinced that we need not believe something that is forced upon us. Even when everyone turns against him, he stands firm and refuses to convert.

Ognjen Sviličić was born in 1971 in Split, Croatia. He has directed six feature-length motion pictures. His film Sorry for Kung Fu won over twenty awards including the ‘East of the West’ Award at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and the FIPRESCI Prize for best foreign film at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. Ognjen Sviličić has also worked as a scriptwriter on several internationally recognized productions. He is a professor at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb, where he teaches screenwriting.

Svilicic demonstrates a good eye for the nuances of manipulation, and though The Voice’s final act generously suggests there’s room for both faith and skepticism in one person, it’s the film’s warning bells that speak loudest.
