AWARD-WINNING FESTIVAL FILMS AT 52ND FEST

Numerous films - festival winners are coming to this year's 52nd FEST, from 23 February to 3 March 2024. The audience can expect films awarded in Cannes, Venice, San Sebastián, Sundance, as well as winners of the BAFTA and Golden Globe awards.
The American-Mexican co-production ‘Memory’, by Michel Franco, is shown in the Gala Plus selection and it won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival, which went to
Peter Sarsgaard. The film, with Sarsgaard and Jessica Chastain in the lead roles, will be screened on 24 February (MTS Hall, Hall 1, 10 p.m.), 25 February (MTS Hall, Hall 1, 2.30 p.m.), 25 February (Cineplexx Galerija, Hall 7, 9.30 p.m.), 26 February (Cineplexx Ušće, Hall 1, 10 p.m.) and 27 February (Cineplexx Galerija, Hall 5, 10 p.m.).
Sofia Coppola's film ‘Priscilla’, about the unseen side of the American myth and Elvis and Priscilla's relationship, their turbulent marriage, won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress (Cailee Spaeny) in Venice, and has a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama. The audience will be able to see this film in the FEST Masters selection. It will be shown on 2 March (MTS Hall, Hall 1, 7.30 p.m.), 3 March (MTS Hall, Hall 1, 12 p.m.), 3 March (Cineplexx Galerija, Hall 5, 2.30 p.m.), 3 March (Cineplexx Galerija, Hall 7, 7 p.m.), 3 March (MTS Hall, Hall 6, 9.30 p.m.).
‘The Taste of Things’ (La passion de Dodin Bouffant) is a French-Belgian co-production directed by Tran Anh Hung from the Gala Plus programme of the 52nd FEST, starring Juliette Binoche and Benoît Magimel. This drama received the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival. The ‘The Taste of Things’ will have a premiere at FEST on 27 February (MTS Hall, Hall 1, 5 p.m.), and it will also be screened on 28 February (MTS Hall, Hall 1, 9.30 a.m.), 28 February (Cineplexx Galerija, Hall 7, 4.30 p.m.), 29 February (Cineplexx Galerija, Hall 1, 5 p.m.) and 1 March (Cineplexx Galerija, Hall 5, 5 p.m.).
The American film ‘A Thousand and One’ directed by A. V. Rockwell, which will be shown in the Gala Plus selection, comes to Belgrade as an award winner at the Sundance Film Festival,where it won the Grand Jury Prize, and it was also awarded Best International Debut at the Jerusalem Film Festival. The film, starring Teyana Taylor, Josiah Cross, William Catlett and many others, also has two nominations for the Independent Spirit Award (Best First Feature, Best Lead Performance). This film is on the FEST programme on 24 February (Cineplexx Galerija, Hall 5, 10 p.m.), 25 February (Cineplexx Ušće, Hall 2, 3 p.m.), 26 February (Cultural Centre of Belgrade, 12 p.m.) and 2 March (MTS Hall, Hall 6, 2 p.m.).
British-American co-production ‘All of Us Strangers’, directed by Andrew Haigh, from FEST's Gala Plus programme, has six BAFTA nominations (Outstanding British Film, Best Direction, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actress in a Supporting Role - Claire Foy, Best Actor in a Supporting Role - Paul Mescal and Best Casting). At the British Independent Film Awards, it took home awards in the Best British Independent Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Supporting Performance, Best Cinematography and Best Editing category. The screenings are scheduled for 25 February (MTS Hall, Hall 1, 10 p.m.), 26 February (MTS Hall, Hall 1, 2.30 p.m.), 26 February (Cineplexx Galerija, Hall 7, 9.30 p.m.), 27 February (Cineplexx Ušće, Hall 1, 10 p.m.).

In addition, the programme includes Oscar-nominated films that have won numerous festival awards:
- The French film 'Anatomy of a Fall' (Anatomie d'une chute), directed by Justine Triet, won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Screenplay, as well as the Palme d'Or in Cannes and the European Film Award for Best Film, Best European Director, Best European Actress (Sandra Hüller), Best European Screenwriter and Best European Editor.
 
- Jonathan Glazer's film ‘The Zone of Interest’ was awarded the Grand Prix in Cannes, the critics' FIPRESCI award and the European Film Award for the best sound. This film has three Golden Globe nominations: Best Motion Picture - Drama, Best Foreign Language Film and Best Original Score.
- Hayao Miyazaki's animated film, ‘The Boy and the Heron’ (Kimitachi wa dô ikiru ka), won the BAFTA Award, the Golden Globe, and the Critics’ Choice Award 2024 in the Best
Animated Feature Film category.
- The Italian-Belgian co-production ‘Io capitano’ (Me Captain) directed by Matteo Garrone will be shown in the FEST Masters selection. In Venice, Garrone received the award for the best director, and Seydou Sarr for the best young actor for this film. ‘Io capitano’ also won the audience award for the best European film in San Sebastián, as well as two European Film Awards (Best European Film, Best European Director).
- The documentary ‘Four Daughters’ (Les filles d'Olfa), directed by Kaouther Ben Hania, received the Golden Eye award for the best documentary film in Cannes, as well as a Special Mention in Chicago and the award for the best documentary film
